Jane Eyre

So...I watched this today. Pretty great. Its like 4hours long but oh man. Lovely. Its close to the book but you know...screenwriter has to put in their own take on some parts. Toby Stephens...yum. He's Dame Maggie Smith's kid...what the what! yeah I know.

Mansfield Park

Not my favorite novel. Also not a fan of the film adaptations. Eh. Maybe this time around I'll fall in love with it. I'm 1/4 into it...so far...eh.
the 1999 version was no bueno.

Sense and Sensibility

: )
I was in 8th grade when I picked up my first Jane Austen novel...though I think I read Pride and Prejudice first and then Sense and Sensibility. For me this one is fun and uber intriguing and doesn't seem to be difficult to read (Pride and Prejudice is well INTENSE!) Anyhoo each Austen novel takes me about 2 days to read...usually between the hours of 10pm-1am. Northanger Abbey was so wonderful. I think we all have a little bit of Miss Morland in us. I sure do. Anyhoo. Alan Rickman!

Ugly Betty

Today was the series finale of Ugly Betty. I am sad. Boohoo! I blame ABC changing the show's time/day ruined it. Blah. Anyhoo.

My favorite character was Amanda.

The finale was nice. I'm glad Wilhelmina and
Connor ended up together. Oh spoiler?
ha oh well. When Betty was in London they
should have passed Alexis.

Northanger Abbey

That was rather fast. Finished Persuasion pretty quickly. I think I read 75% of it last night before I went to bed. Next up: Northanger Abbey. I must admit I watched the film adaptation first. The version with Felicity Jones (I think, the recent one). It was good. But why do all the dudes hairs bug me!? haha.
(sidenote: I have Mansfield Park looking at me. The film version with Jonny Lee Miller. I think he won me over with his portrayal of Mr Knightley.)
(note on Persuasion: the ending is quite lovely. but why oh why do they always efen change it for the film version!? I like the whole Wentworth helping Mrs Smith with her finances awh* Anyhoo Also they should show him looking for hints/looks/etc from Anne)

Persuasion by Jane Austen

Reading Emma didn't take very long as I love love that story. I must say most of the adaptations leave out the ending or change it. The ending is the best part! Onto the next book on my list: Persuasion. I didn't read this book till after high school. I've seen the adaptations and they are all bad. The one I like is the recent one...and sure it has a lot to do with the dude that plays Wentworth...yum. Anyhoo...ready!
(sidenote: she does a lot of unnecessary running...I would add more intense looks and sexual energy...wait this isnt a naughty romance...never mind)

Emma

I've decided to start a book club. Just me. I'll be reading all of jane austen's novels and a couple of other ones.
first up:
Emma by Jane Austen
(sidenote: I really hate Gwenyth Paltrows hair and Jeremy Northoms hair in this version. Also for some reason she seems too old to play Emma. Also they ditched a lot of good stuff from the novel but it makes sense as it was made for the big screen not mini-series.)

You should check out the recent Emma with Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller.
(sidenote: fake crying....bad...Also Jane Fairfax bugs me. Also the ending...would have been beautiful if they didn't cut 20 pages in between the I love you and the going on their honeymoon. Did pretty good of showing everything that happened in the book. I like this version a bit better than the Gwen one)

Mr Knightley

(sidenote: picture was taken by me on my trip to SF. chinatown. great place)

Mr Knightley, " I cannot make speeches, Emma--If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am. You hear nothing but truth from me. I have blamed you, and lectured you, and you have borne it as no other woman in England would have borne it. Bear with the truths I would tell you now, dearest Emma, as well as you have borne with them. The manner, perhaps, may have a little to recommend them. God knows, I have been a very indifferent lover. But you understand me. Yes, you see, you understand my feelings and will return them if you can. At present, I ask only to hear, once to hear your voice"
